Dr Samuel Mathew gets lifetime achievement award

THE International Medical Integration Council presented Dr Samuel Mathew Kalarickal with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his efforts, expertise and longstanding contribution in the field of cardiology. This honour was also bestowed on Dr S S Badrinath, chairman, Sankara Netralaya, Chennai.

The International Medical Integration Council, established in 1992 in Mumbai serves as a platform for medical integration, to being doctors of various specialities together for an exchange of ideas to work towards better patient care.

Those present at the felicitation function included Praful Patel, union minister for civil aviation, Dr Jagannathrao Hegde, sheriff of Mumbai, and cabinet minister, Chhagan Bhujbal.

Dr Kalarickal, director, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, is a pioneer in angioplasty and is known as the ’Father of Angioplasty’ in India. Known for a patient - oriented innovative approach, he was the first Indian cardiologist to apply newer techniques like angioplasty with percutaneous bypass, carotid stenting to name a few.
